Heavily Armed Murle tribesmen attacked Akobo

Today 9 March 2012 at around 4:00 a.m. South Sudan local time armed Murle youth attacked Lou Nuer cattle camps at Akobo leaving unknown casualties dead or wounded. Speaking to South Sudan Today from Malakal town, Mr. Peter Machok said that the fighting is ongoing now and the number of casualties is not yet known. “It is true that Murle attacked our area today. They attack different seven cattle camps at Haat, Mederas, Kuornyuin, Wecgom, Wumyeri and other areas at river Gilo side. Many people were wounded but we don’t know the number’, Machok said.

UNHCR Overwhelmed by huge influx of Sudanese Refugees in Upper Nile

The recent fighting between the Sudan Armed Forces and rebel movements in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states has displaced thousands of civilians. The UN refugee agency, the UNHCR, says that tens of thousands of refugees have fled into South Sudan’s Upper Nile and Unity states from neighboring Sudan.

Ice Factory opened at Malakal town

The population of Malakal was getting their ice from the north, but following the independence of South Sudan, the road was blocked and some goods were banned to come to the South including the ice.This has considerably affected the local population including people with cold storage facilities.
